"Fresh" - Monochromatic Colors

"Fresh" - Dichromatic Colors

When thinking of the word fresh, many different definitions can come to mind. It could be used to describe subjects in many different ways. When approaching this assignment I was thinking of nature and plants. A type of glowing, unspoiled appearance that comes with the spring season. By using only square forms, I used color to influence the meaning in the visuals I created.

For my first set of visuals, I created my forms using only monochromatic colors. One visual uses variations of green to create a cool, fresh springtime feeling. For the other visual I wanted to warm things up a bit, so I used variations of red and yellow. I think what helped most in the design process was how I used images of flowers to pick my color palets. The flowers locked in my fresh, springtime theme so I decided to run with it.

On the second set of visuals I used dichromatic colors to make my forms. I liked the end result more in this visual set rather than the other. When I was using a monochromatic pallete, I couldn't really add a splash of color detail that jumped out. With dichromatic colors, I tried to stay with a background that blended well. Then I would add a small detail of color from the opposite end of the spectrum. It was with this technique that I made a successful composition.

The first box in my dichromatic visual set uses greens and purples in the composition. I like this composition the most because it reminds me of lavender flowers I see in my front yard during the spring. The two variations of green could be leaves or a stem and leaves. The two variations of purple are the petals of the flower. The difference in color really jumps. It's the jump that gives me the idea of the word "fresh".
