Neandathal Logo

Documentation

I was sitting with a friend the other day, discussing his music when he began to look frustrated. I asked him what was wrong and he replied, nobody's even heard of him and his music. If there was only some way he could get his name out there without having a polished album on store shelves. I told him maybe he should start printing t-shirts and flyers or stickers. I would cost less than having an album pressed and packaged and would get his name out to a wide array if listeners. He agreed and we started thinking up a concept. With a name like Neandathal my options were limited. My friend suggested the old drawings of, "the Evolution of Man", and an idea was born. I would use primitive icons in the form of cave paintings to display the four aspects of hip-hop culture (turntablism, break dancing, graffiti art, and rapping). This would have reference to my friend’s name while also referring to his musical culture.

In order to carry out what we had planned I only needed a few tools. First some research on cave paintings and some of my own hand sketches. I could use a vector imaging program to trace the sketches, I prefer Macromedia Freehand. The result should be a logo incorporating pictures of hip-hop culture. This logo can be easily reproduced for promotional purposes. Most of all it must be attractive in such a manner that my friend and his fans can identify with it.
